Yom Kippur is over. The fast which lasts 24 hours ended yesterday with a delicious bowl of beef chow mein. I had my doubts this year, as my hunger has grown in leaps and bounds since the last time. Yet I persevered. The weather is and was unfeasibly comfortable for Cape Town and the [...]Wed, 01 Oct 2008 13:55:00 +0000
The preparation began at 5pm, yesterday afternoon. On the menu was an assortment of foods, none of them easy to prepare.
• Chopped liver
• Roast lamb
• spinach and feta pies
• Grilled marrows
• Roast veg and potatoes.
• Chicken soup
We began with the Chopped liver. It would be my first time preparing this traditional meal and I was completely unprepared for what it [...]Wed, 01 Oct 2008 13:49:20 +0000
I very recently moved to the Mother City. Previously I was eking out a snug, cocoon-like existence in the vibrant student town of Stellenbosch at the very heart of the Winelands. Due to work related reasons I had to relocate and so began the search for suitable Cape Town accommodation.
I had a pretty good deal [...]Tue, 30 Sep 2008 09:17:05 +0000
I once had a lovely little car. Nothing fancy, just a champagne-coloured 1400 Golf. No power steering, no air-conditioning, just the basics. The only thing that set him apart from the myriad of other Golf’s littering the streets of Cape Town was the fact that he was mine and that I was paying the monthly [...]Fri, 26 Sep 2008 13:05:05 +0000
Cape Towns attractions are both varied and unique. This weekend I will travel from windy Milnerton, to green and shady Pinelands, all in the space of one day. Firstly, my cousins farewell and then my girlfriends cousins 21st. All on my lonesome, little 125cc Vuka scooter. I look forward to it tough, two parties in [...]Mon, 22 Sep 2008 14:39:27 +0000
Weather: 22 degrees and windy with a cold snap.
Yes, another weekend has passed, and another month of my Cape town holiday memory fades away. My girlfriend treated me to Ocean Basket and we had the platter for two. It was a grand meal of prawns, mussels, hake, calamari and fried somethings plus chips. I thoroughly [...]Thu, 18 Sep 2008 14:47:17 +0000
It was pointed out to me that I speak about the weather quite a bit. For some reason, meteorological conditions seem to interest people and this could be one of the reason I have such an affinity for weather reporting. Lets speak about something else then.
Such as the WineX, which ran from the 10-12 September [...]Wed, 17 Sep 2008 08:31:40 +0000
Today is the perfect day for a cape town tour. The sun is shining brightly and the clouds have all but vanished. This fact makes work a real chore, as I would prefer to be outside, catching up on my winter tan. I can see all the people outside who are improving their displays to [...]Tue, 16 Sep 2008 10:58:47 +0000
I am strange. People keep telling me this and I have grown accustomed to it. One of the ways in which this strangeness manifests itself is my aversion to shopping. Yes, you read correctly - I despise shopping. I am in my twenties, I am a girl and the mere idea of going on a [...]Thu, 11 Sep 2008 13:46:47 +0000
Everyone in Cape Town is miserable. All you hear the whole day long is people lamenting the fact that it is raining. Again. Personally, I don’t understand it. What do they expect? The Western Cape is a winter rainfall region and, as I try to explain unsuccessfully to so many of these people, it’s good [...]
Daily ramblings about the town I live in, Cape Town, South Africa.
