At the outset of Chiranjeevi's first mega meeting at Avilala in Tirupathi, many have thought that was a super hit show.
The immediate talk was spread like that basing on the hype but eventually there have been many criticisms from Chiranjeevi camp itself. Chiranjeevi was successful in impressing people by telling his childhood incidents but he failed in showing himself as leader with great vision. At the end of everything, the signals have gone wrong for people as Chiranjeevi didn't express anything about his future plans, if he comes to power, in concrete terms. People are saying that the plight of his meeting is like his earlier film 'Jai Chiranjeeva' that appeared to be a hit on first day and lost miserably afterwards. Read full story

The much-awaited name was unveiled by the star before a sea of humanity at Tirupati on Tuesday evening in filmi style. Developing the suspense and anxiety of the audience comprising of hundreds of thousands of men, women and youths, Chiranjeevi said that the name was chosen because his party was born from the hearts and minds of the people. "Who called me into politics. It was you people. What do you want? It should be rule by the people for the people, " he said. Without going into the details of the policies and programmes of his party, Chiranjeevi said it will be a secular, pro-poor party. "It will be the part of backward and weaker sections, farmers, labours, and women. It will be party, which will fight for social justice which will take Andhra Pradesh towards economic development and prosperity and industrial development. It will make the state a Santosha Andhra Pradesh, Chirunavvulu Andhra Pradesh and Ananda Andhra Pradesh, " he said.
He promised top priority to the farmers, universal access to good education and healthcare to all the people on the lines of developed countries. "My dream is to provide high-quality healthcare of corporate sector hospitals to the people in districts, " he said. The wait was long, but worth it. The megastar and the annaya (brother) of Andhra Pradesh arrived at the Avilala Cheruvu in Tirupati at 5.30 pm amidst cheers and screams from all his fans who were waiting since morning. Chiranjeevi, sporting a white shirt, walked up to the grandly-decked dais, waving at fans who could not stop screaming the moment they laid their eyes on the star. Chiranjeevi began his speech by uttering the words and seeking the blessings of "Tirumala Tirupathi Venkatesha."
Chiranjeevi, who sounded emotional on seeing such a huge gathering, said, "These eyes of mine are blessed to be witnessing such a wonderful sight." He also went on to say that he was here to serve the people and told the people that he understood the problems as he too came from a very humble background. The crowd was beyond control and screamed "Jai Chiranjeeva" as he decended upon the temple town of Andhra Pradesh. However, as he started speaking, the entire crowd went quiet and began listening to him patiently. Flowers were showered on the mega star the moment he walked up to the dais and as he waved and greeted the crowd, the people danced and shouted as though there was no tomorrow. The older women were seen weeping as he came on stage and they raised their hands towards him showering their blessings on the star.
The temple town had not seen so much activity in a long time. The town was probably reminded of the days of N T Rama Rao who launched his party in Tirupati in similar fashion. The fans say that the crowd present is nearly 10 lakh. However, when one looks at the sea of humanity present at Tirupathi, you could say the crowd is as much as the eye can see.
The organisers had a tough time in controlling the crowd. The police had to resort to lathi charge on three occasions to keep the crowd under control.
Throughout the day, Chiranjeevi's movies such as Mutta Mesthri and Indra played on the giant screen as well as the 70 LCD monitors that have been set up at the venue.
A documentary on Chiranjeevi's achievements and also on his charitable activities were also shown. The people were also treated to a variety of cultural programmes, which mainly revolved around the life and achievements of the megastar, Chiranjeevi.

He made the much-awaited announcement in the temple town of Tirupati in filmy style after a long speech and a short dialogue session with the assembled gathering. Soon after he announced the name a short song and sequence came on the giant screen behind him on the dais which the few lakh audience lapped it up enormously.
The 53-year-old matinee idol and son of a police constable outlined his party's vision in various sectors and also unveiled the party flag -- green and white with the sun in the middle - amidst rapturous applause from the huge gathering.
In his more than hour-long speech, the megastar, however, skirted thorny issues like Telangana statehood demand, Naxalism and categorisation of Scheduled Castes, saying a ‘collective decision’ would be taken on these matters after ‘scientific evaluation’.
"On these sensitive issues, I cannot take an immediate decision. We will take inputs from intellectuals and come to a collective decision", Chiranjeevi told the gathering at the sprawling 120-acre Avilala Tank.
Chiranjeevi, a Padma Bhushan awardee, has acted in 148 films. Former President A P J Abdul Kalam had inspired him to take a plunge into politics and vowed to bring about positive change in politics.
Earlier, excited over their matinee idol's political debut, Chiranjeevi's fans went out of control at the site of the public meeting leading police to lathicharge on them.
Thousands of Chiranjeevi fans, who poured in from all over Andhra Pradesh to listen to their star revealing the name and agenda of his party, swamped into the chamber which was alloted for physically challenged people.
Chiranjeevi said his party would work for the empowerment of poor and weaker sections of the society.
Touching upon a string of socio-economic issues, he said Praja Rajyam would accord top priority for agricultural development and welfare of farmers, primary health, education, labour welfare, opportunities for youth and women.
The actor, who was the sole speaker at the more than two-hour-long meeting, also promised to come up with a clear-cut policy on regulation of liquor trade.
"Fighting corruption, particularly the political corruption, will be one of our main agenda, " Chiranjeevi said.
‘Change and Social Justice’ appeared to be the mantra of mega star as he unveiled his political vision before the gathering.
"Today, we are sounding the bugle for a major battle against the social ills. There are no leaders in the battle but only servants. I am your servant. We will win this battle. No one can stop us, " Chiranjeevi said with a dramatic flourish.
TIRUPATI: Lakhs of supporters celebrated as megastar Chiranjeevi on Tuesday unveiled his political party and named it ‘Prajarajyam’.
Addressing a political meeting, where large numbers of fans had gathered to support their legend, the southern star said he is overwhelmed by the response of the people towards his decision of joining politics.
“The new party will have social justice as its main agenda, “ Chiranjeevi said.
Chiranjeevi added, “I firmly believe in youth power. I am hungry to serve the people of my state.”
He also said he knows the pulse of the public and thanked his supporters for gathering in large numbers at the party launch.
Fans turn out in large numbers
Excited over their matinee idol's political debut, fans of the Telugu superstar went out of control at the site of the public meeting in this temple town leading police to lathicharge on them.
Lakhs of Chiranjeevi fans, who poured in from all over Andhra Pradesh to listen to their star revealing the name and agenda of his party, swamped into the chamber which was alloted for physically challenged people.
Repeated appeals by Chiranjeevi's brother and actor Nagendra Babu to maintain calm during the public meeting, went unheeded among the jubilant fans.
Police resorted to lathicharge to control the crowd.
The organisers had claimed that traffic arrangements for Tuesday's meeting had been made in such a manner that pilgrims descending on Tirupati for darshan would not be affected in any manner.
In order to prevent traffic jams due to sudden influx of people for the meeting, the authorities had decided to curtail all train services at Renigunta itself and not allow it into Tirupati.
The eight-feet high huge dais, comprising big pictures of Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, B R Ambedkar, Jyotirao Phule and a digital screen at the centre, attracted hundreds of people.
Nine digital screens were installed at strategic places for the crowd to listen to a larger-than-life Chiranjeevi. And in a display of some order unlike many political meetings, first aid clinics, fire engines and water packets were arranged for the public.
Over 2, 500 security personnel including bomb disposal squads and dog squads were pressed into service to maintain order.
Today, August 26th will be the most unforgettable and historic day in the life of each and every Telugu person who wants to see this state moving towards a better future. It is not just the birthday of Mother Teresa, it also happens to be the birth of a new party and also Megastar Chiranjeevi in his new avatar as a politician.
This moment is one of its kind since something like this happened many years ago when the legendary 'Annagaru' NTR hit off into politics with the creation of the 'Telugu Desam Party' in the year 1982. Today, TDP has emerged as the major contender in the political affairs of the state. Read full story
