A recent research for its Strategic Reviews Online IC company database uncovered a big shakeup in the 1H08 top 20 semiconductor supplier ranking. There are eight U.S. companies in the top 20 (including three fabless semiconductor suppliers), six Japanese, three European, two South Korean, and one Taiwanese company (IC foundry supplier TSMC) in the ranking. As shown, it required at least $2.1 billion in 1H08 sales to make the top 20 ranking. Although the top four ranked companies remained the same, there were a number of "movers and shakers" up and down the remainder of the 1H08 ranking as compared to their full-year 2007 positions.no@spam.com (Electronics.ca Research Network)

Findings from the market study "Automotive Market for Semiconductors" suggest steady revenue growth for the automotive semiconductor market to 2015. The global market for automotive semiconductors is forecast to grow from $20 billion in 2007 to just over $30 billion in 2015. With total 2007 semiconductor revenues of around $255 billion, and this suggest the automotive sector accounts for between 7-8% of the TAM. Continued semiconductor demand is forecast in each of the main areas of the vehicle, as electronics increasingly pervade the main systems. Accordingly, average semiconductor content per new light vehicle is forecast to grow steadily from around $295 in 2007 to $375 in 2015.no@spam.com (Electronics.ca Research Network)

The lion's share of the worldwide Ethernet market revenue continues to be generated by vendors well established in the fast Ethernet (FE) and gigabit Ethernet (GE) semiconductor segments, including Broadcom, Marvell, Realtek and Intel. However, IDC observed that the marketplace has begun to adopt 10 gigabit Ethernet (10GE), and that both startups and well-known public vendors earned notable 10GE revenues in 2007.
