Defender Christopher Samba Continues To Spark BlackburnPOINTSHAVERS.COM 10/2/08 - This weekend, all eyes in the English Premiership will be on the Blackburn Rovers when they host Manchester United in a match which will indicate how far Blackburn can go with new manager Paul Ince. Blackburn has suprised a lot of people this year with a suprising 3-2-1 start which has given them 7th place in the English Premiere League Standings with 10 points accrued thus far. The Rovers are actually four spots better than 11th place Manchester United; however, that is a little bit deceiving. Manchester United has only played 5 games while Blackburn has played 6. And Manchester United's only loss of the year came to 2nd place Liverpool. Manchester United travelled to Liverpool and lost to 2-1 in a close match.Manchester United is also coming off of an easy win in the UEFA Champions League over Denmark Club AaB by a final score of 3-0; however, Manchester United lost Wayne Rooney to an ankle injury and Rooney will not play this weekend against Blackburn.Even without Rooney, Manchester United should play well at home in a meaningful game that has a big influence on the English Premiere League Standings. Over the years, Manchester United has performed well against Blackburn.... and with Manchester United trailing Blackburn in the standings and playing without star Forward Wayne Rooney...Manchester United should play with more focus.Take Manchester United (-190) vs BlackburnClick Here (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=312 Itemid=144) For More Free Sports Picks (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=312 Itemid=144)Mon, 29 Sep 2008 19:00:00 +0100
Alexei Ramirez's Grand Slam Has Given The White Sox MomentumPOINTSHAVERS.COM 09/30/08 - Simple high school physics defines momentum as mass times velocity. And Newton's second law of motion states that an object in motion tends to stay in motion unless acted on by another force. After a year of betting on baseball, I really believe that these same laws of physics can also be applied to sports gambling. More importantly, these laws of phyics can help predict the outcome of tonight's one game playoff between the Minnesota Twins and the Chicago White Sox.The Chicago White Sox were playing great baseball at US Cellular Field until they lost AL home run leader Carlos Quentin who injured his wrist during a temper tantrum. With a bat in his right hand, Quentin struck his left wrist in frustration and the impact fractured his wrist bone. The White Sox went on to play uninspired baseball for weeks to follow including a dissapointing series in early September where the White Sox dropped three out of four to the Toronto Blue Jays. The White Sox followed that series with a 3-7 road record; and during that stretch, they dropped three straight to the Minnesota Twins in a critical series in the Metrodome that allowed the Twins back in the race for 1st place in the AL Central. After being swept by the Twins, the White Sox lost two consecutive home games to the Cleveland Indians. Remarkably, the Twins did not take advantage dropping their next two home games to the Kansas City Royals. After both teams won on Sunday...Alexie Ramirez lifted the White Sox over the Tigers to force a one game playoff. The Twins can't be happy about travelling to Chicago where they have struggled. The Twins are 2-7 against the White Sox at US Cellular Field and they'll have to depend on RHP Nick Blackburn (0-2 W-L, 7.28 ERA on the Road vs Chicago White Sox).Blackburn will have to pitch one of his best games to slow down the surging White Sox; otherwise, if the Sox pick up a little speed and get some early runs...then physics tells us that they will be really hard to stop. Willie Parker's Absence May Put More Pressure On RoethlisbergerPOINTSHAVERS.COM 09/29/08 - Turnovers may be the difference in tonight's Monday Night Football game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens.Tonight, Ravens Rookie Quarterback Joe Flacco will try to improve the Ravens record to 3-0 when they travel to Pittsburgh to face the Pittsburgh Steelers who will be playing without star running back Willie Parker who is out with a undisclosed injury. Parker's absence, will give Steelers Rookie RB Rashard Mendenhall a chance to shine in a Monday Night Football game with a lot of significance in the AFC North. The Steelers (2-1) need to keep pace with the Baltimore Ravens (2-0) who are running away with the division at the moment.Since blowing out the Texans 38-17 in their home season opener, the Steelers have looked very unimpressive in their last two games on the road. The Steelers had trouble scoring points against the Browns defense at Cleveland; and last week, Ben Roethlisberger was sacked eight timesin a 15-6 loss to the Eagles. In that game, Roethlisberger commited three turnovers which included an interception and two fumbles.Roethlisberger has been playing with a shoulder injury for the majority of the season; and, you would think that after getting banged up by the Eagles...Roethlisberger would not be at 100% tonight. However, Coach Mike Tomlin held Roethlisberger out of pracitce this week to give his injury a chance to heal...but how will this affect his timing which has been a little off in his last two starts.I doubt the Ravens defense will feel sorry for the Steelers recent misfortunes; as a matter of fact, they will more than likely try to put pressure on Roethlisberger in order to force turnovers. On the other hand, the Steelers defense will more than likely do the same to young Ravens QB Joe Flacco who will be tested in his first significant division game. He breezed through his first two starts against the Bengals and the Browns; but the Steelers defense may be more of a challenge for Flacco who has not looked all that good...only 129 yards passing in each of his two starts. This is a hard game to figure out because it will more than likely come down to turnovers. And we've also got rookies on both sides of the ball (Flacco and Mendenhall). The Steelers may try to strike quickly and put the Ravens in a hole which would give Flacco BIG TROUBLE because he is not a quarterback who is likley to come back from a large deficit. But are the Steelers capable of a quick strike attack? They've only averaged eight points in their last two games; and the 38 point outburst at home was largely due to Willy Parker's 138 yards rushing and 2 TDs. We're going to give the edge to the team that's playing better football at the moment and getting five points in what we hope is a low scoring game. In addition, the opportunistic Ravens defense might make this a much closer game than people expect.Take Baltimore Ravens +5 (-110) vs Pittsburgh Steelers WINClick Here (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=312 Itemid=144) For More Free Sports Picks (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=312 Itemid=144)Thu, 25 Sep 2008 19:00:00 +0100
POINTSHAVERS.COM 09/26/08 - ESPN Friday Night College Football has been much more kind to us than Thursday night this year. Last Firday, the Baylor Offense came through for us against the UCONN Defense. This week, we hope the the Louisville Defense can stop UCONN's dangerous ground game which is lead by junior running back Donald Brown who has rushed for 716 yards and 10 touchdowns so far this season. In three games played so far this year, Louisville's new and improved defense under Defensive Coach Ron English has given up less than 40 yards rushing per game. You would think that they might be able to play even better tonight because UCONN is has a pretty one deminsional offense. UCONN has only scored 1 passing TD this year compared to 12 rusning TDs.Therefore, Louisville might be able to stack the line in order to shut down UCONN's ground game which might leave the passing game open for Connecticut Huskies QB Tyler Lorenzen. But if UCONN gets shut down early on the ground...and they cannot kickstart their passing attack tonight; then, tonight's game could come in comfortably for the home favorite. Seriously...do you think this guy can compete with USC?POINTSHAVERS.COM 09/25/08 - ESPN projects that 5-10 Oregon State Quarterback Lyle Moevao will be sacked 16 times this year. Here at PointShavers.com, we think that the USC Trojans can sack this guy 16 times this evening....This trend indicates that Oregon State may have some serious problems with an big, athletic, and aggressive USC defense that will be sending multiple blitz packages at Oregon State all game long. Did I forget to mention that Oregon State has a very young offensive line? And...Oregon State's defense gives up an average of almost 30 points per game?Pete Carroll was not thrilled about USC's preformance against Ohio State. So, you can bet on the fact the USC practices this week were anything but easy. Pete Carroll wants to see a convincing win tonight with great execution on offense.Oregon State has given USC trouble in the past; and, they come into this game averaging almost 30 points per game. But Penn St. was able to ERASE Oregon State's passing offense in a 45-14 win where Moevao was kept out of the endzone and sacked for a total loss of 45 yards. It is also no coincidence that USC held Moevao to only 3 points the last time they faced him in a 24-3 USC victory. If the umpires don't protect him...Reyes could get blasted...POINTSHAVERS.COM 09/24/08 - If it weren't for Jo Jo Reyes' great pitching in April and May, he would already have been sent down to the minor leagues. He is a left hander who lacks velocity and relies on placement to frustrate hitters. He does not have a variety of pitches and relies on a 1st strike curveball on the outside corner to get ahead in the count. We really don't like him tonight againt Philladelphia pitcher Brett Meyers and the Phillies who lost last night; and also need this game to hold on to their lead in the NL East.Should be another easy game...I guess you never know...but we've made money betting against Jo Jo Reyes all year.Take Philadelphia Phillies -1.5 (-135) vs Jo Jo Reyes LOSSClick Here (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=312 Itemid=144) For A Free 2-Team Parlay!Mon, 22 Sep 2008 19:00:00 +0100
Another Mets Collapse Could Give Brewers The NL WildcardPOINTSHAVERS.COM 09/23/08 - Today's pick is pretty simple. The Brewers need to win today in order to keep their playoff hopes alive. They have been playing badly for the last week; but, we're going to put our faith in the Brewers today. We think these guys can bounce back at home against the Pittsburgh Pirates, a team that the Brewers have never lost to at Milwaukee. As a matter of fact, the Brewers are 11-1 against the Pirates this year with their only loss coming at PNC Park on May 22nd.This pick goes against our new and improved handicapping system...but with the postseason only weeks away, the Brewers absolutely have to step up for this critical game against a team that they have absolutely dominated this year.Take Milwaukee Brewers -1.5 (+105) vs Pittsburgh Pirates WINClick Here (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=312 Itemid=144) For A Free 2-Team Parlay!Sun, 21 Sep 2008 19:00:00 +0100
Jets Offensive Scheme Lacks CreativityPOINTSHAVERS.COM 09/22/08 - Jets offensive coordinator Brian Shottenheimer took a lot of criticism for his conservative play calling last week against the New England Patriots. Many fans blame Shottenheimer for granting journeyman quarterback Matt Cassell his first win as a starting quarterback since high school. Cassell promptly followed the improbable win with an embarrassing loss this past Sunday to the Miami Dolphins and the new NFL SoothSayer...LB Joey Porter.Last week, the Jets found themselves on the three yard line with a chance to put Cassell and the Patriots on their heels with an early score; but instead of letting Favre take a shot at the endzone, the Jets chose to hand the ball off to Thomas Jones on three straight carries which gained a total of 1 yard. When criticized by local media, Shottenheimer defended his playcalling saying, ...we felt very good about those plays. We were running the ball well, and Thomas was having a good game... - www.newsday.com (http://www.newsday.com/)I'm not an NFL coach, but with Thomas running the ball well...wouldn't you think the defense would make the adjustment to defend the run on the 3 yard line. And even more so...with the defense keying on Jones...wouldn't a play action pass catch the defense by surprise?I tell you what....if the Jets idea of opening up the offense means allowing Brett Favre to pass on every down, then Favre will be spending most of the game on his back. The Chargers defense will be able to pin their ears back and pass rush Favre on every down if the Jets offense becomes predictable. And if the Chargers get an early lead and the Jets are forced to play catch-up...I'm not sure if the Jets offensive playbook lends itself to another come-from-behind effort from Brett Favre.I'm sorry...but I'm going to have to see more from the Jets before I put my money on them. Did I mention the fact the referees will give the Chargers the benefit of the doubt on every call after what happened last week?Take San Diego Chargers -8.5 (-110) vs New York Jets WINClick Here (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=312 Itemid=144) For A Free 2-Team Parlay!Thu, 18 Sep 2008 19:00:00 +0100
But In the End...It Doesn't Even Matter POINTSHAVERS.COM 09/19/08 - After winning 14 out of 15 games from late August to early September, the Astros have lost 5 straight games and find themselves 5 games back of the NY Mets for the National League Wild Card. With only 8 games remaining in the regular season, it's safe to assume that the Astros won't be making the playoffs this year.Astros fans have endured losing streaks throughout the 2008 season, but the most recent one is especially hard to take. It has to be painful for fans to see a team fall so far...so quickly. Just a week and a half ago, Roy Oswalt and the Astros had just swept the Cubs at Wrigley; and, with another Cubs series coming up in Houston... the Astros were in a great position to have the last laugh in the NL Central with another Cubs sweep and perhaps a run at the division lead. But the arrival of Hurricane Ike forced League Commisioner Bud Selig to relocate the series. And in a move that upset many fans in Houston, the Astros-Cubs series was moved from Houston to Milwaukee. And with Milwaukee only a short drive from Chicago, Miller Park became Wrigley Field North. The Cubs went on to sweep the Astros in Milwaukee by a total score of 11-1. Remarkably in those two games, the Astros were able to get only 1 hit in 18 innings; and, in Game 1... Chicago Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano got a no-hitter in a 5-0 Cubs victory. The Astros played hard to take down their hated rival; but, the league won't allow that to happen. (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=319 Itemid=2) There is too much money at stake to leave the Cubs and their millions of fans out of the 2008 World Series. The Astros have been getting robbed all season long; but, the lastest theft seems to finished this team off for good. West Virginia QB Pat White Looked Bad Last Week against ECUPOINTSHAVERS.COM 09/18/08 - As we learned yesterday, laying points on the road in College Football can be dangerous. And today, we've got another potential trap game on ESPN Thursday Night Football between the #21 West Virgina Mountaineers (1-1) and the Colorado Buffaloes (2-0). West Virgina hit a bump in the road last week in a 24-3 road loss to the East Carolina Pirates. In that game, West Virginia QB Pat White completed 11 passes for only 97 yards. And West Virginia's high octane ground game was cooled off by a Pirates defense that played well in an emotional home game that came a week after East Carolina upset #17 Virgina Tech 27-22.West Virginia fell 13 spots in the Top 25 after last week's loss; and, that has to be devastating to a team that has been in the mix for a BCS Natinoal Championship for the last few years. It will be interesting to see how West Viriginia bounces back tonight. The good news for the Mountaineers is that they will be playing a Colorado team that has been playing some pretty poor defense over the last couple of games. Colorado gave up 24 points to Eastern Washington last week in a game that the Buffaloes could have easily lost. Their pass defense was exceptionally poor as the Buffaloes gave up over 300 yards passing to Eastern Washington QB Matt Nichols.West Virginia's defense hasn't played much better which leads us to believe that this might be a pretty high scoring game. West Virginia comes into this game as the better team with a lot to prove. I expect the Mountaineers to play a lot better tonight; but, the Buffaloes have the offense to hang right with them 'till the very end. With the total at a very high number, the best play might be the moneyline?Take West Virginia (-150) vs Colorado Buffaloes LOSSClick Here (index.php?option=com_content task=view id=312 Itemid=144) For A Free 2-Team Parlay!
