Another lunch time spent on hold, waiting to speak to a department that can help me at the bank.
Last months phone bill was £120.
Is it still worthwhile reclaiming bank charges?Kolin

My Loan payment didn't go out today - I forgot to call them after my bank took away my overdraft.
Great, more charges!
Bank charges really are the scurge of the world. There was the test case a short while ago, but where are the effects? Does anyone reading this know? Why are we still getting charged so much?Kolin

According to Google Maps I live 3.4 miles away from work (as the car drives). The sound of such a distance alone might be enough to put off some people - but I enjoy the walk.
It gives me a little bit of time in the morning to have a think and get some exercise at the same time.
The distance isn't as bad as it sounds (most people can walk a mile in 20 minutes), and I get to work quicker than if I were to get a bus and a tram (the other option).
The fact that I get to work quicker is great, but also for me the fact that I don't have to rely on anyone but myself is reassuring. I know that 99 times out of 100 I will be out of bed on time, and make it to work with no hitches. Whereas with public transport, the bus could be late or not turn up, the tram could be late or not turn up, both could be late or not turn up... plus it costs me money!
The combined cost of the bus and tram is as follows:
Bus: £3.30 per day or £10 per week.
Tram: £3.60 per day
On a daily basis therefore I save approximately £6. This multiplied by one working year: 240 x £6 = £1440 !!
Wow I didn't realise how much I was saving! That is enough for 1756 Greggs cheese pasties! Shows in a way how saving up a little money can accumulate quickly!Kolin

My application got rejected for a bank account... Perhaps I should have took heed of the word "premier" in the name of the account!
I assume if applying to a bank is anything like applying to a credit card company - I am better off leaving it a wee while before I make another application.Kolin

I am trying to change back accounts at the moment - want to get rid of my current bank after last weeks performance. Don't stick with a company that doesn't offer good service... basic rule of thumb I think!Kolin

Having second thoughts about the loan. Don't want to get into more debt, but need some money to get by...
I wish the bank of mum and dad was open a little later...Kolin

I was more than tempted to get a small loan last night...
Going to look into the loan rates tonight and make a decision...
This isn't a good time to borrow money... I feel sorry for all the people out there selling loans on commision!
Right now its a tossup between Think Money (the first people to make a donation!) and a couple of others.Kolin

My bank in their infinite wisdom have decided to remove my Graduate overdraft - and hence make me instantly £1250 poorer. Thanks for that!
Well, no worries, I will pay it off and close my account with them. I was planning on getting a mortgage with them in the next year or two - so they have just lost out on a £100, 000 or two worth of interest!
CheersKolin

In case anyone looks at this blog and wonders why I am detailing my debts...
I thought i would show what my inspiration is, specifically two blogs by my colleagues:
I moved house over the weekend (being an ex student everyone moves around this time of year)... and managed to build up a few debts with my girlfriend, adding up to about £600!Kolin

This is a shocking statistic! Paying your mortgage with a credit card is a ticking timebomb!

Well, here goes.... time for the dreaded debt breakdown! All the loans I have taken out, all the money I owe, spliced together into one somewhat depressing list!
Student Loan: £17, 000 (I will get a more exact figure when I can, but this is roughly what it stands at right now). The interest for this is about £60 a month at the moment. Would be a lot higher interest if it was from a private company, but still high.
Overdraft: £1250 (The maximum over draft available - again a consequence of my student days...)
Unsecured Loan: £5800 (I am paying this off steadily at about £130 a month. This consolidated an earlier loan I had taken out when I had to move house a couple of years ago)
Credit Card: £0 ! (Credit card debt is one thing I have managed to avoid thankfully. I got into about £1000 CC debt whilst I was a student but managed to repay it with a lot of hard work)
And thats a wrap! I hope to tidy up the figures to make them more accurate at some point soon - but this will do for now.
So what's the total?! £24, 050Kolin

Hello and Welcome to the Daily Debt blog!
I'm going to try and track and blog about my currently unfortunately rather sizeable debts - in the hope that it may motivate me to reduce them, and perhaps help me organise myself a little better.
Any messages of support will be greatly received, any donations equally so! My debt is my burden, but if any of you kind souls want to help relieve me of that burden, I will gladly link to your website or blog! : )
You can email me at: dailydebt (at no spam please, we're Christian) googlemail.com
Cheers,
ColinKolin
