There are two kinds of modern LCD screens: matte (anti-glare) and glossy. Both have their pros and cons and are a subject of many discussions.
Matte screens don't get glare or reflections on them; however, the same rough surface (polarizer) that reduces the intensity of reflected light, results in less contrast and brightness as light from the LCD screen passes through it. Matte screens might be hard to read outside, especially in the sunlight; most laptops come with glossy screens nowadays.
Glossy screens have vibrant colors, highest contrast and brightness because they have a smooth, high-gloss surface. As a result, outdoor visibility becomes much better. However, strong lighting causes glare on these screens, which is very annoying and may harm your eyes if you have to stare at it all the time. You can also see reflections on the screen; besides, some designers find the colors unrealistic.
Which ones are better? We'd love to hear your opinion!Tue, 23 Dec 2008 18:09:50 -0600
There is a big rivalry between the Coffee and Tea industries. Coffee emphasizes it's ability to energize, while Tea boasts incredible health benefits. Sometimes the fight between the companies get dirty, and they start saying things like "coffee is a poison", or "tea is a drink for the infirmed", which we all realise aren't true! Do you know exactly what tea and coffee are? Tea is an infusion made by steeping leaves of the tea bush, Camellia sinensis, in hot water for a few minutes. It is rich in antioxidants, has a subtle scent and a relaxing effect. It is generally agreed that tea (especially green tea) is good for your health: it may prevent cancer, fight free radicals, and help with health diseases. Coffee is a stimulant beverage prepared from beans of the coffee plant. There are several species of this plant, such as Coffea arabica and Coffea benghalensis. Nothing like a cup of aromatic coffee to wake you up and start your day! As for coffee's effects on health, it's still disputed whether they are positive or negative. Now, you decide which one is better!Mon, 20 Oct 2008 17:16:22 -0600
With a router from this series, you can share a broadband internet connection using both wired and wireless links. WRT54G is a cool little device with low power consumption, a powerful 200 Mhz (overclockable!) processor and 16 MB of memory. WRT54G can run Linux and is the first cheap home router in history which firmware source code was released to the public. As a result, several third party firmware projects were started, which improve router's functionality greatly and brings it closer to capabilities of expensive commercial networking equipment. I have personally tested several of these firmwares on my WRT54GL router, and you can find their short reviews below. Be warned though that I'm relatively a newbie to home networking and the tasks I want my network device to do are mostly limited to "making my games not lag" and "making my skype voice chats smooth", and I make my choices for best router software based on these requirements.Sat, 03 Jan 2009 13:55:50 -0600
Pirates vs Ninjas, sometimes known simply as PvN, is a debate that has been around for a long time. Many great minds tried to provide a definite and scientifically-proven answer to these questions, and failed. Who is stronger, better, more awesome, and who would win in a fight? Is it the ninjas - masters of stealth, silent, deadly, and trained in secret martial arts? Or maybe the pirates - fearless and greedy rulers of the seas? Voice your opinion below, or, if you're unsure yet, scroll down to the ninja vs pirate facts!Wed, 22 Oct 2008 10:28:06 -0600
If you are sharing your internet connection, or plan to, you will probably run out into some problems. There's always this annoying roommate who uses up all bandwidth to download porn using p2p, or a neighbor who browses streaming video sites like Youtube, causing you to lag out in your favorite game or making you unable to chat properly in Skype.
The best solution to this kind of problems is to use a router which is capable of QoS (Quality of Service). Basically, this kind of router controls your traffic (it's called "traffic shaping"), prioritizing certain types of it, and making sure everyone gets a "fair share" of bandwidth. Of course, if you are the administrator, you can make your share a bigger one ;)
Now find out how you can set up a perfectly working home network without blowing your budget!Tue, 25 Nov 2008 01:29:56 -0600

There are two freeware BitTorrent clients that really stand out from the crowd: uTorrent and Azureus (Vuze). Since these are the most popular ones, it's only natural that a lot of people argue about which one is a better torrent downloader: Azureus or uTorrent? Both of them have their pros and cons, some of which are listed below. Both clients, however, are fully capable of creating, downloading and seeding .torrent files, as well as doing a lot of smart and advanced thingies like automatically downloading from RSS feeds, using multiple trackers, banning specific IP addresses, or setting download priorities for each file inside the torrent separately.Sat, 03 Jan 2009 13:48:11 -0600

The anime takes place 10, 000 years in the future, where humanity has left the Earth and found a new home. They are not the only sentient life form living there: Scub Coral, which makes up a large portion of the planet itself, is a mysterious, intelligent being. It causes a phenomenon called Trapar (Transparent Light Particle), strange energy, floating in the air, which people use to supply free power to flying vehicles, and even for surfing-like sport (lifting aka reffing). The main character of Eureka 7 is Renton Thurston, a 14 year old son of Adrock Thurston, who died saving the world. Renton lives with his mechanic grandfather, hating his boring hometown and his father's reputation that surrounds him. He dreams of joining a rebel group called Gekko state, which has some of the best "reffers" too. An opportunity to do so comes up when Eureka, a mysterious girl from Gekko state, visits his grandfather to get some emergency repairs for her robot, Nirvash typeZERO. Eureka 7 is a manifold anime that covers several different themes. It's a story of a boy growing up to become a man, and finding his path in life. It's a story of love between two beings from different worlds. It's a story about fighting to save the planet, and making great sacrifices in the progress. Eureka 7 is produced by Bones studio. It has 50 episodes, which are all named after a song. The genres of this anime are: Adventure, Mecha, and Romance. I usually don't like mecha anime much, but I absolutely loved E7!Sun, 21 Dec 2008 16:42:18 -0600

If you came here looking for good fantasy books to read, you probably know all about the genre already. For those who don't, here's the definition. Fantasy is a genre that uses magic as it's primary setting. The technology in most fantasy works is at the level of European middle ages. What they have instead are the things we all love: dragons, magic spells, brave warriors, witty bards, graceful elves, and long evenings telling epic tales at the warm tavern. You might want to choose some excellent works to read from our list of best fantasy books; or, vote for your favorite fantasy series. If there's one you think absolutely has to be on the list, you can even add it yourself!Mon, 22 Dec 2008 18:48:15 -0600
