Bionic Commando Rearmed is an enhanced remake of the classic 2D 8-bit action platformer Bionic Commando for the NES released in 1988.
Rearmed remains extremely faithful to the original while adding a slue of enhancements. While the 2D gameplay in combination with the levels are almost perfectly preserved from the 1988 game, the graphics and overall design has been revamped and modernized. 3D character models and backgrounds along with smarter enemy A.I., bigger bosses (sadly, the final boss with the exploding head isn't present), new abilities, upgrades, and new game modes make Rearmed much more than a simply remake. Oasis are a British rock group, originally formed in Manchester, England. They enjoyed a period of huge success following the release of their first album, Definitely Maybe and during the second, (What's The Story) Morning Glory?, with praise from across the spectrum and the accumulation of several major awards. Many critics have since said this was the peak of their musical career to-date. They cite bands such as The Beatles, Slade, The Stone Roses , The Real People, The Smiths and The Who as influences.
The band currently comprises lead guitarist and principal songwriter Noel Gallagher and his younger brother vocalist/songwriter Liam Gallagher, who are the only remaining original band members. Included in the group are Andy Bell, Gem Archer and live drummer Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr (The Beatles). The band continues to maintain its original organization of two guitarists, one bassist, drummer and lead singer.
Thanks to the success of their critically acclaimed debut album Definitely Maybe and its 18m selling follow-up (What's the Story) Morning Glory?, the Gallagher brothers featured regularly in tabloid newspaper stories, and cultivated a reputation as bad boys.
At the height of their fame, their 1997 third album Be Here Now reached #1 in the UK charts and also became the fastest-selling album in chart history, with almost half a million copies sold on the first day alone. (read all)Sat, 23 Aug 2008 06:49:21 -0600
A Perfect Circle (often referred to as APC) was an alternative rock supergroup, formed by guitarist Billy Howerdel. Howerdel had worked as a guitar tech for bands such as Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, Fishbone and Tool. He played demos of his music to Tool's singer, Maynard James Keenan, who offered himself as vocalist should Howerdel ever form a band. Howerdel was initially hesitant about this as he originally wanted a female vocalist, but eventually agreed and A Perfect Circle was formed in 1999. To distinguish himself from his persona with Tool, Keenan wore long wigs on his otherwise bald scalp for all of A Perfect Circle's music videos, photo shoots and live performances. Maynard, when asked at a news conference, stated that the name " A Perfect Circle" originates from the friendships of the band members, all of them met one another in a way resembling "a perfect circle of friendship." The band's latest line-up featured Jeordie White (formerly of Marilyn Manson) on bass, James Iha (formerly of Smashing Pumpkins) on guitar, and prolific session drummer Josh Freese. read the rest of the Wikipedia article Fri, 25 Jul 2008 20:26:34 -0600
Timbaland (born Timothy Z. Mosley in Norfolk, Virginia on March 10, 1972) is a hip hop and R&B record producer and rapper, whose style of production and arranging was very influential in both genres of music during and after the mid-1990s. With partner Magoo, he is a member of hip-hop group Timbaland & Magoo.
Timbaland is similar to producers such as Phil Spector, Brian Eno, or Norman Whitfield in that he helped to redefine the sound of an entire genre of music with an immediately recognizable production style. The songs he produces feature unusual arrangements, sounds, and instrumentation, tied together by a trademark sense of rhythm. Like Spector and Whitfield, Timbaland's production sometimes overshadows the credited performer and becomes the actual "star" of the song. With songwriters Steve "Static" Garrett and childhood friend Missy Elliott, Timbaland has helped to create some of the most successful songs in modern pop music and urban music, including singles for Aaliyah, Ginuwine, SWV, Total, and 702.
Mosely grew up in Norfolk, Virginia, where he became acquainted with Missy Elliott and Melvin Barcliff, whose MC name was "Magoo." Originally a disc jockey known as "DJ Timmy Tim, " Mosely began making hip-hop backing tracks on a Casio keyboard he owned. Elliott heard his material and, taken by Mosley's unique sense of rhythm, immediately began working with him. (read all)Sat, 23 Aug 2008 07:01:32 -0600
Broken Social Scene are a Canadian indie rock supergroup formed in 1999 in Toronto, Canada. The band's core members are Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning. This duo recorded and released the band's ambient debut album, Feel Good Lost, in 2001, with contributions by Justin Peroff, Charles Spearin and Bill Priddle. However, when they played shows to support the album, Drew and Canning found it difficult to put together an entertaining show based on Feel Good Lost, which was an almost entirely instrumental album. As a result, they brought in a number of friends from the Toronto indie scene -- Andrew Whiteman, Jason Collett, Metric's Emily Haines and Leslie Feist -- to flesh out their live show with lyrics and vocals. Over time, the band also came to include contributions from James Shaw, Evan Cranley, John Crossingham, Lisa Lobsinger and Stars' Amy Millan. All of the later guest musicians joined with Drew, Canning, Peroff and Spearin to record the band's second album, You Forgot It in People, in 2002 on the label Arts & Crafts. AFI (A Fire Inside), is an American band from Ukiah, California that formed in 1991. They began as a punk band. The band signed to DreamWorks in 2002 and slightly shifted their sound to a variant of rock or alternative as some claim. While still in high school in Ukiah, California, David Marchand aka Davey Havok(vocals), Mark Stopholese (guitar) and Vic Chalker (bass) formed an outfit called AFI in 1991. At the time, most of the band did not know how to play any instruments. Stopholese suggested his friend Adam Carson, who had a drum kit, join the band. Stopholese learned guitar and Chalker learned bass, but Chalker was soon replaced by Geoff Kresge and AFI made their first EP in recording Dork (1993) with the now defunct Loose Change, which included future AFI guitarist Jade Puget. AFI disbanded when its members attended different colleges, including UC Berkeley. Kresge moved to New York where he played with Blanks 77. After reuniting to perform a live show, the other members decided to drop out of college to play full-time with AFI. Between 1993 and 1995 they released several vinyl EPs (Behind the Times; Eddie Picnic's All Wet; Fly in the Ointment; This Is Berkeley, Not West Bay; AFI/Heckle; Bombing the Bay) independently. Their first full-length, Answer That and Stay Fashionable was released in 1995. In 1996, the band released their second album, Very Proud of Ya, on Nitro Records. >>(read all)Sat, 23 Aug 2008 11:06:15 -0600

The Cranberries was an irish rock band that rose to mainstream popularity in the 1990s. Though not officially disbanded, as of 2003 they have been on hiatus. Combining the melodic jangle of post-Smiths indie-guitar pop with the lilting, trance-inducing sonic textures of late-'80s dream pop and adding a slight celtic tint, The Cranberries became one of the more successful groups to emerge from the pre-brit-pop U.K. indie scene of the early '90s. Led by vocalist Dolores O'Riordan, whose keening, powerful voice is the most distinctive element of the group's sound, the group initially made little impact in the dream United Kingdom. It wasn't until the lush ballad Linger became an American hit in 1993 that the band also achieved mass success in the U.K. Following the success of Linger, The Cranberries quickly became international stars, as both their 1993 debut album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?, and its 1994 follow-up, No Need to Argue, sold millions of copies and produced a string of hit singles. By the time of their third album, 1996's To the Faithful Departed, the group had added distorted guitars to its sonic palette and attempted to make more socially significant music, which resulted in a downturn in the band's commercial fortunes. During the next few years, the band cancelled a large tour and rumors of a breakup were widespread. They released Bury the Hatchet to mixed reviews in 1999. In 2001, they released Wake Up and Smell the Coffee to rave reviews of "The magic is back." The album debuted at number 46 in the U.S. charts. (read all)Sat, 23 Aug 2008 10:57:37 -0600

The brainchild of singer/song-writer/guitarist Kevin Barnes, euphoric indie popsters of Montreal were among the second wave of bands to emerge from the sprawling Elephant 6 collective. A native of Athens, Georgia, Barnes was inspired to form the group in the wake of a broken romance with a woman from Montreal; signing to Bar/None while living in Florida, he subsequently moved to Cleveland and Minneapolis in search of compatible band mates, finally returning home to collaborate with bassist Bryan Helium (also a member of Athens' Elf Power) and drummer Derek Almstead. of Montreal's debut album, Cherry Peel, appeared in mid-1997, followed that autumn by an EP, The Bird Who Continues to Eat the Rabbit's Flower. After Helium left to focus on Elf Power full-time, Almstead assumed bass duties, and keyboardist Dottie Alexander and drummer Jamie Huggins joined the lineup; still, the second of Montreal full-length albums, 1998's The Bedside Drama: A Petite Tragedy, was recorded primarily as a Barnes solo project. Multi-instrumentalist A.C. Forrester signed on for 1999's sublime The Gay Parade; the singles retrospective Horse & Elephant Eatery followed in the spring of 2000. The group continued with the release of Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies: A Variety of Whimsical Verse in April 2001 and Aldhils Arboretum in September of 2002, both for Kindercore. With the folding of Kindercore, the departures of multi-instrumentalist Andy Gonzales and Almstead, and Barnes' marriage, 2003 proved to be an up and down year for the group. The Kinks were a British rock group that came out of the British R&B/Mod scene of the early 1960s.
Formed in 1963 in London, UK, they first gained prominence on the heels of the well-received and highly influential single "You Really Got Me" (1964). The group originally consisted of lead singer/guitarist Ray Davies, his brother lead guitarist Dave Davies, drummer Mick Avory and bassist Peter Quaife. Quaife left (twice) in the late 1960's, and Avory finally left due to a long-running dispute with Dave Davies, leaving only the Davies brothers as the core of the original group.
