The Phillies look to go up 3-0 as the Dodgers return home for the first time since the sweep.
Pitching for the Dodgers, at home, again, is Hiroki Kuroda, who fared well against the Cubs.
Pitching for the Phillies is Jamie Moyer, who did not perform well is his outing against the Brewers.
The Dodgers are in a must win situation!
DODGERS: Bat through the order and put up a big FIVE in the first.
SECOND: Phillies answer with one and Dodgers come back with another - Dodgers 6, Phillies 1. High & Tight to Russell Martin - after being hit in the shin earlier in the game - ensures a follow-up by the Dodgers.
HOT: Kuroda answers the Phillies with one over the head at Victorino. A warning is issued for the payback by the umpires. As the inning ends both clubs spill...

Some short travels and other opportunities this week allowed contact with a number of undecided voters and an informal survey of the coming election. It seems the landscape here most closely resembles 1976 when comparing the present to prior elections.
A quick consensus is that nothing seemingly contradicts the public polls much; Obama is clearly poised to capture the presidency and be the blank check and liberal panacea the media and liberal power brokers in Washington have all been betting on.
Nonetheless, there remains some - albeit slight - glimmer of hope for McCain to still prevail.
This group of remaining undecided voters is seemingly larger than the 5% (or maybe even 10%) showing in the public polls.
These folks (the undecided voters at this point) are - at...

Anxious to begin raising taxes and creating new + increased big government spending programs that Barack Obama has promised, Nancy Pelosi is now planning to bring Congress into session right after the election to start writing new tax hikes & huge government spending + giveaways, an additional $150 billion in new special interest projects to start, even before Obama takes the Oath of Office.
With over $860 billion in new government spending programs already proposed, it's clear the congress is anxious to get busy spending (LOTS) more of the people's money. According to new reports, this first $150 billion will be in addition to the $860 billion in new spending Obama has already proposed, in addition to the $750 billion bailout package and also in addition to the extra $150 billion...

Stocks in Tokyo plunge 9.4%, trading in Indonesia is halted after plunging > 10% and Hong Kong markets look equally ugly.
AP: Japan's Nikkei plunges 9.4 percent on crisis fears - Japan's Nikkei stock index has plummeted 9.4 percent to close at a five-year low on deepening fears over the global financial crisis. The benchmark index on Wednesday nose-dived 952.58 points to 9, 203.32, the lowest finish since June 2003. The index has lost 24 percent in the last two weeks. ... The massive sell-off in Tokyo follows a plunge on Wall Street Tuesday, when the Dow Jones industrial average lost more than 5 percent despite steps by the Federal Reserve to reinvigorate dormant credit markets.

The Second Presidential Debate
The next not-so-great debate took place in Nashville tonight.
Unfortunately, for McCain watchers, there were no death blows tonight.
Fortunately, for McCain watchers, there were a number of continued body blows issued against Barack Obama.
And, for Obamabots, there was plenty of counterpunching, oftentimes left unanswered due to the restrictions on the format only McCain seemed willing to abide by during the early portion of the debate.
Many of the questions were not very compelling ... and therein lies the inherent bias of somebody like Tom Brokaw; he picks questions that are interesting to him & his friends in the media, first, Obama supporters, second, and rarely if ever anything from a conservative perspective.
Probably the...

Wall St. takes stock of current presidential polls and plunges 500 amid further bottom testing.
While the media remains focused on last week's bailout package, the markets are looking forward, as they always do.
Based on current polls Barack Hussein Obama will have taken the oath of office within six months time, the usual time frame for advance market outlook.
What do markets have to look forward to in an Obama administration?
Start with the tax increases. Obama can fool Main St. with his phony math about 95% of Americans getting a tax cut but Wall St. is not so naive and can do the corresponding calculations to realize that simply involves a tax increase for most and socialist redistribution of wealth, given 40% of Americans do not currently pay any taxes.

Last night's experience at Dodger Stadium was not only the most exciting in twenty years, it also suggests a valuable lesson for the McCain campaign.
After all, the vaunted Chicago Cubs were readily deemed the best team in the National League. The powers that be in the MLB front office and all the major media outlets had long ago pre-ordained the outcome of this event.
In fact, to many in positions to 'know' there was really no question what the outcome of the upcoming NLCS would be - quite simply, the leading force from Illinois would be triumphantly victorious and erase not only recent strings of losses but a legendary 100 year curse. The Cubs were even assigned a special documentary film crew to record every moment of this inevitably historical experience.
This narrative...

Tonight's the night the lights went out on O.J. Simpson.
Literally.
The verdicts are all in and it's unanimous, guilty all the way around for O.J. and his (not for much longer) buddy Clarence Stewart.
O.J. had been last seen smiling at the jurors as they left to begin their deliberations.
The verdicts were clean and the Judge continually no nonsense. She's the judiciary's equivalent of Sarah Palin to Biden playing the role of Judge Ito.
She checked all the sheets (carefully) and the proceedings began.
Guilty after Guilty. after Guilty. Another handful of Guilty's.
And that was just his accomplice. Then the verdicts on Simpson began!
Guilty, Guilty, Guilty ... how many charges were there again?
There was plenty of time for O.J. to reflect. ...

Joe Biden had brain surgery twenty years ago and it seems to be failing significantly.
Revelations continue to roll in over all the outright lies and distortions (beyond the gaffes) Biden made in last night's debate with Sarah Palin
Shortly after the debate the McCain campaign promptly released a list of 14 lies.
Geraghty has the list up to 22 or 24 'hallucinations'.
But 'hallucinations' doesn't even seem to really cut it when Biden talks about regularly visiting places that haven't existed for over 20 years.
This is a serious problem. Biden's brain has clearly suffered some deep hemorrhaging and, beyond the surgery, it's a question worth asking once again, whether his brain is indeed able to function properly and what perils that beholds the citizens of this country...

For fans of both baseball and politics this is a tough call.
Which to watch?
Obviously the answer has to be BOTH!
Thanks to the wonders of PIP technology this is indeed feasible!
Of course there is also TIVO and C-SPAN replays.
But live coverage is the essential choice here.
The Dodgers need to win but can afford not to. The Chicago Cubs and Sarah Palin have no such luxury.
It's Chad Billingsley (16-10, 3.14 ERA) vs. 'Big Z' Carlos Zambrano (14-6, 3.91 ERA)
And Sarahbarracuda vs. the Gaffemeister.
Pitching for the MSM will be Gwen Ifill, Obamadolater extreme, who's not just an exceptionally liberal journalist for PBS, she's also the author of the new Obama extravaganza, The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama.
There are sure to be...

The Cubbies & Dodgers are about to embark on the next chapter in their quests to win the World Series!
The Cubs have the best record in the National League and a hometown opener following a dramatic victory by the White Sox last night.
The Dodgers have the benefit of some of their previously injured players at the ready, on the bench, albeit not in the starting lineup tonight.
And they have MANNY. With the 'adjustment' (meaning 'haircut').
Here's the Dodgers starting lineup:
Rafael Furcal SS
Russell Martin C
Manny Ramirez LF
Andre Ethier RF
James Loney 1B
Matt Kemp CF
Blake DeWitt 2B
Casey Blake 3B
Derek Lowe P
The Cubs send Ryan Dempster, winner of 17 games this year, to the mound to start things off.
It's been 20 years since the...

The Senate version of the Bailout bill is out and there are plenty of names to name.
Clearly it's time for John McCain and Sarah Palin to begin Naming Names if they expect to retain any credibility in this matter and win the upcoming election.
To date, McCain hasn't used this bill as an example. Instead, the first pork + earmark laden big spending bill that's come across his desk - he now reluctantly accepts without a peep. He could turn this whole thing around by exposing this fraud and offering a simplified substitute bill - with just the basics required to address this fiscal crisis. He would have the people's will behind him and easily enough votes in congress to pass & would reverse momentum in the polls.
This is like tee-ball and McCain is playing whiffle ball...

In the ultimate quest for absolute political power, Democrat Staffers on Capitol Hill chose lots to bet on how far Nancy Pelosi, Rahm Emanuel & Barack Obama could drive down the stock market.
The Democrat leadership knows that there is little the American people + voters know less about than the intricacies of the American + Worldwide economy. Yet while Micro + Macro Economics aren't at the forefront of American educations, there is little that can rile the angst of the average voter more than any perceived threat to such wellbeing. Historically, manipulating the economy - or even just the mere popular perception of the economy - for political gain has proven far more effective than the Democrats' best scare tactics.
Just ask Bill Clinton who rode such a media distortion to...

This campaign John McCain has been railing against the big spenders in Washington and promising to name names.
If he expects to become POTUS it is time to begin that practice.
Certainly, if he can find no more ready audience than the country at this time, nor any better bill, laden with miscreants, than the bailout bill currently being debated in the House of Representatives, then he's not looking.
There hasn't even been much time to review the bill online before the House Web Site has repeatedly been going down again and again these past few days.
People are ANGRY and rightly so.
And as long as Republicans allow Nancy Pelosi to come out and declare an end to capitalism and blame Bush tax cuts for this problem, without barely a whimper from McCain and the Republicans, ...

There shall be no bets in this household where the women love the Chargers and the men love the Raiders
KICKOFF: Goes to the Raiders with a great return up the sideline to near mid field. A couple quick pass plays takes the Raiders to the Red Zone where they quickly capitalize on a field goal to go up 3-0.
SAFETY: Booming kick by Shane Lechler pins Chargers deep and a mishandled snap puts the ball down in the end zone for 2, Raiders 5-0.

The First Presidential Debate
This was an interesting debate ... enough to warrant follow-up viewings.
No knockouts or knockdowns. Objective punditry awards it to McCain. Liberal media bemoans the lack of any 'soundbite' they could use to bash McCain.
Obama was well rehearsed after 3 days of dedicated preparations.
McCain seemed to miss a number of opportunities to really nail Obama.
Where was mention of Obama for declaring Iran was a 'tiny country' ???
Nonetheless, McCain was able to issue a number of sustained body blows.
Rib Shots.
The kind an opponent takes repeatedly but each one leaves a pounding. Over time they can lead to the toppling of an opponent.
Obama was ofentimes left on the defensive, almost hysterically panting to rebut things at...

When it came to the Palin interview it seems that Charlie Gibson drank from the swamp and caught the fever.
First challenged that he misquoted the Governor, and then denying the fact that he had, Charlie seemed to relish the role of persistent inquisitor, arrogantly staring down his nose.
It's now clear, however, it was Palin who properly smelled something funny.
Palin's critics' favorite moment was when Palin properly asked Gibson to clarify exactly 'which aspect' he was seeking by 'Bush Doctrine'.
After all, if she hadn't asked him to clarify the true intent of his question before answering, the headline this following morning would have near certainly read, 'PALIN SANCTIONS TORTURE!'.
ABC News describes Governor Palin as 'seemingly flummoxed by the term' and...
