If there is one thing that everybody need these days, it's a reliable web browser.
Personally, I prefer Mozilla Firefox - since it is faster, more secure than Internet Explorer, and fully customizable.
Popularity
Since January 2008, Firefox owned about 15% of the recorded usage of web browsers, making Firefox the second-most popular browser in the world.
Firefox uses the open-source Gecko layout engine, which implements some current Web standards plus a few features which are intended to anticipate likely additions to the standards.
Features
By default, Firefox supports Tabbed Browsing, Spell Checking, Incremental Find, Live Bookmarking, a Download Manager, and Google Search. Adding functionality is as simple as installing the appropriate plugin extension, from the online Firefox Add-ons catalog.
Favorites
My personal add-on selection include the All-In-One Sidebar, the Download Manager Tweak, GMarks, PicLens, and Tab Mix Plus.
Firefox currently supports Linux, Windows, Mac OS X, and various Unix-flavored Operating Systems.

A notebook you can organize, back up and share!
About six years ago Mitch Kapor, the guy behind Lotus 1-2-3, started a new open source project called Chandler. The goal was simple enough: Create an personal information management tool that would allow users to store, share, and collaborate. It would have things like a calendar, address book, and to do list.
In other words, Chandler is a lot like Microsoft Outlook. But there are a few major differences:
- Chandler is open source
- Chandler works with Windows, Mac, and Linux and has a web interface
- You can sync your Chandler tasks with an online server and share them with others
Overall the interface of the desktop and web clients is pretty, but not necessarily intuitive. For example, there's a nice big text entry box at the top of the application that you would think would be for searching. But it's primary use is for entering new tasks. Type something into that box and a new task is created. If you want to use the text area as a search box, you need to type "/f" before entering your query.
Is Chandler kind of useful? Sure. Is it an Outlook killer? Maybe. Was it worth a six year wait? Maybe not. But now that it's here, Kapor says it's up to the open source community to continue developing the project. And I've learned never to understimate the open source community. If there's a will, there's a way, and this application could be the future of collaborative task management. On the other hand, it's not entirely clear if there's a will at the moment.
What do you think? Is Chandler the wave of the future, or should Kapor have given up on it years ago?

Manage All Your Social Networking Profiles, Instant Messaging, and Email, from One Application
I've always loved the idea of all-in-one applications - something about having less, but more (less software, with more features). That is why, upon reading about Digsby at Download Squad and Webware, I hopped on over to their site, downloading, and begging Steve Shapiro for an invite (which he so kindly issued - thanks Steve!).
Once installed, upon launch, Digsby will prompt the user to add whichever accounts they wish to make use of.
Digsby has INSTANT MESSAGING support for AIM, Google Talk, ICQ, Jabber, MSN, and Yahoo!
- One combined buddy list for all your AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Google Talk, and Jabber Accounts.
- Manage multiple conversations with tabbed conversation windows. You can drag tabs out into their own windows for important conversations.
- Rename contacts with an alias so you don't have to remember buddy names like 'giantsfan123'.
- If one of your friends has more than one IM account you can combine them into a single merged contact to eliminate duplicate buddies.
- Send your friends SMS messages right from the IM window.
- The InfoBox lets you check everyone's status message and profile just by moving your mouse down the list.
- Changing your status has never been easier. just one click right on the buddy list!
- Multitask while you chat. Minimize the IM window and you see popups of new IM's. Best of all, you can reply right from the popup and get back to what you were doing.
- Log conversation history and find the information you need our search-enabled log viewer.
- And so much more.
It also provides EMAIL NOTIFICATION for AOL Mail, Gmail, Google Apps, Yahoo! Mail, as well as any POP3 or IMAP-enabled email service.
- Manage your Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, AOL/AIM Mail, IMAP, and POP accounts right from digsby.
- Get popup notifications when new email arrives. Clicking a popup takes you right to the message with auto-login into webmail accounts.
- The email InfoBox gives you a snapshot of your unread messages with just one click
- Perform actions such as "Mark as Read" or "Report Spam" right from the email InfoBox.
- Send emails to your friends right from the IM window. The email is sent directly from any account digsby is tracking for you.
SOCIAL NETWORKING, however, are limited to support for Facebook and MySpace. Sent my wishlist to Steve, however, including: Bebo, Dada, Friendster, and Tagged.
- Stay up to date with everything happening on your Facebook or MySpace account (other network support coming soon).
- Receive alerts of events such as new friend requests, messages, group invites, etc.
- The social network InfoBox gives you a real time NewsFeed of what your friends are up to. Everything from new photos, to status updates, to upcoming birthdays is just a click away.
Digsby also allows for extensive PERSONALIZATION
- Customize digsby with application skins to give it a personal look and feel.
- Change the way your conversations look with themes – everything from simple AIM-style windows to 3D conversation bubbles.
- Complete control over the layout of buddies on the buddy list. Change everything from buddy icon size to whether or not to show a snippet of their away message.
- Sort your buddy list how ever you want! You can organize buddies manually, by status, by service, by name or by log size to place those you communicate with most at the top. You can even choose a secondary sorting method.
- Customizable notification system lets you choose what events you want to be alerted about and how.
Other
- Digsby offers complete synchronization between computers and installations. Everything from the skin you chose to your pre-defined status messages follows you from place to place.
- You can place a widget on your blog, website, or social network profile so you can chat with visitors right from Digsby.
- Manage multiple simultaneous file transfers from one simple transfer manager.
Overall I'm pretty impressed. Digsby provides a great range of features. Now, if it supported Flickr and YouTube, I'd have no need for either, Flock or 8Hands. But I'm holding both thumbs.

Local Area Networking
Computer network covering a small geographic area, like a home, office, or group of buildings e.g. a school. The defining characteristics of LANs, in contrast to wide-area networks (WANs), include their much higher data-transfer rates, smaller geographic range, and lack of a need for leased telecommunication lines.
Wide Area Networking
